Which do you like or think is better, Macs or the PCs? Why?
I prefer Macs. They are so much more user friendly, faster, and less likely to get a virus. The only drawback I can see is that Macs are slightly more expensive. But I think the money is worth it.

LOL I moderate and admin on a couple of music forums and we have a unwritten law that every poll should have an extra neutral choice which is always "You W**ker!" ... sorry I just thought of that because this is one of those polls that always brings out the trolls and the flamers.....
anyway my 2cents, I use both, Windows for games, MS Project, Outlook (and back in the old days programing work) , Mac for work (MS Office), Photography and Art (Photoshop/lightroom, Illustrator and Painter)
Always thought "Prefer OSX, but Windows is good too"
.... but... but... Having been running Parallels for about a week and having Windows & Mac OS together and continuously switching between the two.. man Windows (or at least XP Pro) is a sad, kludgy, painful experience with a interface design that's come nowhere and learnt no lessons since the days of Windows 3.1.
So I voted for Linux :P

i can say that MaC does posses the most advantages... for the latest MaC model, it's now compatible with any OS(Operating Systems) which means you can now install windows, linux, solaris, etc. and that's user friendly ^_^

PC: Reasons:
Cheaper
Modifiable
ANYTHING you want to do to a PC can be done
Everything runs on it
Look Better
LCD's not branded by Apple are 10x cheaper.
RAM is cheaper.
Mac Reasons:
Less of a target for Virsuses and Malaware, but hey, thats what FireFox and Opera are for on a PC.
Case : PC's are better then Macs.

I was asked by my friend whether to buy Mac or PC's, I told her PC's, why? I am not really familiar about that Mac before.
But now, when my father ask me(he always ask me first before buying something expensive) which do I prefer. I told him Mac would be much more better than PC, it's expensive but its worth the money and the effort.

I own both. They both are good, though to me PC Windows is faster than the Mac OSX. I use Mac for random reasons.

Yeh, no trolls or flames here...
Those music sites I mod/admin on are punk music sites and they are full on flamewars ... most of it's just for laughs but every time I come here I have to remember to be a nice, polite, non potty mouthed poster... it's hard and a few times I've had to edit my posts ...... it's like being at a pub with your mates then going directly to church having to watch your mouth and what you might say.
Oblig on topic content, it's easier to go from Windows to Mac than from Mac to PC........... I don't know what that meens OS usability wise but a lot of my users who go from Windows to Mac don't want to go back, but most of our Mac users who go to windows can't wait to go back... even swapping their brand new Toshiba laptops back for for their 3 year old PowerBooks (or just never using their new machine and keep using their old Mac)

I am an old PC user but I am starting to like Macs more and more every day. PCs are nice in that if you know how to you can do just about anything but the average user does not know a heck of a lot. I have also heard that Macs do not slow down as much with age. Every PC I have had on the other hand has gotten so slow that it becomes nearly unusable. Macs are also the industry standard for my chosen job field of Graphic Design so I will have no choice but to switch. I think I will get Windows on my Mac so that I can still use some of my old programs though. Next year I get my Mac and I can not wait to make the switch!

I much prefer pc's to macs. PC's are upgradable, cheaper, and generally can have better hardware. PC's also seem to respond faster. (however, I have a high-end gaming computer..and the macs i've used are laptops..so that could be the reason...). PC's also have direct x...which means that they have a massive advantage when it comes to playing 3d games.
I understand that macs may be easier for an entry level user, but i felt really constrained by it..like I had less control over what was going on.
I would also like to mention that as long as you treat your computer correctly (uninstall correctly, spyware/virus scan regularly), and are at all carefull while online, then PCs won't slow down. I have a computer that i no longer use much, since i bought my current computer, and i haven't reformatted for years. It still runs as fast as it did when I got it.

Personally, I hate both, a choice I think should be on that poll. Windows (especially Vista) are hard on the processor, but even though Mac's are more user friendly most software are only compatible with Windows.
Nameless one

Very true but really it all depends on the user.
For instance graphic designers, web designers, photographers, and game designers are very popular hobbies and occupations in modern day.
Mac reaches out to those people more than others because they make a lot of their software to suit them.
For instance on my mac I have the complete bundle of Adobe. Flash, dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop CS3, Illustrator, and etc.
I also have all of that software on my PC and sadly the same software for the mac is 10 times better. There are more features and more user friendly functions on it. When I toggle from mac to pc I usually can't share projects between the two because the PC demolishes some of the functions or layers. T.T
I think I like them both equally though. I don't think I could live with out one or the other. I use the mac for work and the pc for fun. :D However if I was made to choose I'd stick with my mac because it is more reliable. ^^

Thats funny, with my XP Pro, I can just turn off the services I dont need, drop down to a <150MB pagefile and 14 services.
I would like you to try that on a mac, oh, and then try using a pdn file on a mac, that would be funny.
Reason why macs seem to perform better with equivilent hardware:
(Core 2 Duo, 7300GT, 1GB DDR2, etc...)
Mac OS is written for that hardware, Windows is not, windows makes use of thirdparty drivers in order to gain a functinality of different systems, take a mac and add something to it (gpu, ppu, differnt motherboard, etc..) ya, cant, it dont work. Since mac's are coded primarily for that hardware, they seem to work faster, try to put a 8800GT in a mac and your screwed however.

My teacher said and my brother said Mac is the best. Though expensive, but the worry you have is less than 10 percent. It is more high in technology than the PCs.

Mac is better in many ways over a PC, for one the security with a Mac is much better because it does not usally run windows OS.Apple Computers are most of the time cheaper than a PC because they are not the top shelf computer to buy which is a thumbs up to them. They make more money by being the second biggest computer/software company. That is not to say that a PC can not be a Mac as well but it is better to just use Mac is you want more security online. You can run Linex on both but Mac runs it better. So I am going to say that Mac's are better than PC's in most ways, but PC is still on top so people think it is better.Don't always go with the propaganda media that says that Macs are not as good, they may even be better.Apple just came out with there Leopard OS which works better than Windows.

Yeah, I agree, my preference also lies with Mac. As for the price... everything is included with Mac, whereas you have to buy alot of "extras" with PC. However at the end of the day it comes down to what on wishes to do with your computer... which one runs the application that you need the best?

The only good thing I like about a Mac is that it comes with a Webcam installed in it now unlike my PC...
I personally like PCs better. First off, I can go to the store, buy some parts, and make my own PC. For my mac mini (which I really didn't want, someone gave it to me as a gift), I have to wrench the stupid case open with 2 putty knives. Apple seems to not want to let you upgrade your machines. And what's with Mac OS not being able to be installed on regular PC's? You can install Windows on a Mac, so why not the other way around (at least not without jumping through complicated hoops)? Personally, I like Windows, I'm used to the interface and comfortable in knowing how to tweak my system.

wahhh this news I have here is crazy. The new mac books can run XP or Vista :D
That's great, now I want a Mac :D
I want to triple boot Mac OS, XP, and Vista :D
Although there are some good and bad points each has, I have to go with Windows.
Yes, Mac has less viral threats, but that's simply because there are far more Windows users out there, so more information for greedy hackers. Yes, Mac is better on graphics, nut I'm a coder, not an artist, PC lets me choose all the bits I want, and change them in minutes, I like to be able to change and play with my system. I don't like being stuck with being forced to use specific stuff. I like software, and that works mainly on Windows. As far as reliability is concerned, I haven't once had an error with my windows machine, and I've had a crash or two with the Mac I was using before. But I know this isn't "normal", from what everyone says.
Either way though, Windows, and it's counterpart, the PC take my vote. :)

Well I would say Mac is the best...but if you base the fact that more software support can be found on PC, I say PC.
Though the benefits of owning a new mac (Intel-based Mac that can dual boot the standard built-in OS and XP/Vista) is phenomenal :D

PC because they're cheaper, faster, and good for gaming.
I'm not quite so sure if Macs are faster or PC's because i have never tried Macs that aren't from school...

We'll.... I think personally that Macs should be use for professional purposes only. But if your a teenager who just wants to listen to music, play games, surf the net, watch bleach/torrent bleach, you should go use your money and buy a decent PC. By not buying a Mac, you might save a few hundred dollars and you could go buy yourself a 360 or a mp3 player.
Macs are expensive if you just want a computer...usually the people who buy macs for gaming(haha) or just to surf the internet are idiots. They are either rich and have a surplus of money to spend, or they are idiots. Buying a mac and not using it to run proffessional programs, and just to do simple stuff like listening to music and surfing the web makes you an idiot. You could buy a equivently fast PC for alot cheaper. Also, macs aren't these perfect machines, they too crash and have material defects.
Also, just because you can run both Windows and the Mac OS, on one computer doesn't justify anything. Why would you want two OS in the firstplace? Correct me if I'm wrong:o, but whatever a Mac OS can run, they probably make it for windows too.
If you are afraid of getting viruses on a PC, you are just either a very perverted person or a very lazy person. Stop looking at those naughty sites! and go download or "buy" a anti-virus/ad-aware software.
If you are using common sense, you must think about what you are going to do with your computer. If you want to play games, go with windows. If your editing a movie for hollywood or editing pictures for a company, and getting paid, go with mac.
These are just my opinions about the topic, but with my situation, I'm going with PC. I don't care if you don't agree with me, but please list the reasons why if you do, and I might glady accept your opinion and might change mine.:D

I would completely be in love with Mac's if it wasn't for the stupid fact that nobody makes crap for them. I know that its becoming more universal to make things for them... but still... I look at a lot of things in Best Buy that say... Not For Mac... it makes me mad... or Not Compatable with Mac... grrr!

I have to vote for mac -- it is all that I have ever used since the very first mac classic was introduced. At this point, I am so used to mac format that I am almost instant death to any windows-based pc I touch (even when just shopping online, no one will let me actually touch their computers! lol).
As far as performance goes -- I bought my iBook 2 years ago at the same time my mom and a good friend bought window's laptops for a lot less money. Since then, my computer has been a dream, but my mom's has crashed 4 times, and my friend has had her crash twice and had her hard drive replaced. My brother-in-law bought a windows laptop in the spring of '07 and has already had to send it off to be repaired and it is still not recognizing his printer. In 20 years of owning mac computers, I have had my computer crash once and that was my own fault for installing incompatible extensions (I was able to save everything on the drive though).
As far as convienence goes, since joining BA 4(?) weeks ago and seeing all of the cool things people design (amvs, sigs, animated gifs, etc.), I have been able to learn how to do them as well using (mostly) the software that came with my laptop (mind you, I am not great at them, but I do have the basics down). Which was great for me. I don't know if window's based computer come similarly loaded.

Computers crashing has NOTHING to do with the computer. When an error accours its the users fault. Not the computer and not the OS either.
just FYI.
faeril
02-09-2008, 07:37 PM
Yes, the actual crashing of a computer is the user's fault -- however whether a computer is easy to crash or difficult would be the result of the system software/OS (I have heard plenty of horror stories about vista). I am no more a computer "expert" than any of the people I referred to in my previous post and am far more likely to install various software and the whatnot, yet I still manage to not crash my computer. My point was only that my mac was less impacted by user ignorance than the window's based computers of my friends and family.
I personally have almost no experience on a window's computer -- these are just my observations from the people around me. Another example, my aunt had a window's computer until 5/07 when she bought a mac. She was tired of her old computer crashing because it was too sensitive to her lack of skill.
Mac computers have severe limitations in software options (trying to find decent freeware for projects I want to do -- a joke!) and almost every good program costs an arm and a leg. That is the trade-off I guess for being more "dummy" proof (and, yes, I fall into that category quite frequently).

I have yet to find an alternative to any windows program that had a learning curve of 0...
I have tried macs before, I used my cousins C2D MacBook Pro to play WOW (And I killed his char), but otherwise it seems that OSX and the previus version are about sucseptiable(sp>_>) to user error as Win2000 or Vista (XP is godly).
My question for all you mac users is why you shell out so much money for a pretty box with less power, less useability, etc..etc..?

IMO- macs are complete JUNK!!! there is almost no software, it doesnt work on a pc without extensive painfull hours of modding, not much hardware compatibility, no hard drive space whatsoever and they think ther better than windows. the only thing that is remotely good about it is there arent many viruses for it.

02-12-2008, 02:12 PM
i gotta throw this out there too.....
one thing, i tell you, I HATE macs
but.... im not as ignorant as most other mac flamers.......
both, OSX and XP/Vista are prone to crashes. software crashes are most common and if you dont know how stable a piece of software is for your system, then dont use it....
this goes for both macs and PCs its just that macs have much less of those "homebrew" apps that windows guys make all the time.
mac people's computers will last longer with less cleanup because of how everything thats designed by apple is just about 100% stable on the system. very nice actually. less bad registry entries and other stuff that plagues people.
now hardware, the average mac is seriously a piece of S***...... i mean youre paying top dollar for some junk costing only 600-800 bucks in hardware..... why? the only good macs i see are the server class mac pros and the S-IPS equipped macbook Pros......
all the rest are crap and thats what the rest of the world is getting really.....
PCs however are several times more powerful and can be several times more stable, BUT you need to know several times more knowledge about the computer in itself for it to be a reality.

For me, I don't care which one I choose...mac or PC...(for me - save money, wait for the refund, etc)
I'm a mac user for 5 and a half years (iBook laptop, I'm definately need to by the desktop) and I'm strictly for artists (Photoshop, InDesign, Corel Painter X) like me and iMovie lovers (I'm making AMV) alike - it's easy than WMM (I'm little bit practice it but confused). PC is fine for me (I'm a less bit experienced it), only for online games, Micrfosoft Word, music/MP3.
I want BOTH - must need the Parallel software for combo both mac and pc on the same computer (mac)...
