Hello, as I have searched for the old thread (same title 'The Musicians' Thread') I have made back on... June or something but I can't seem to find it now. I guess it got deleted or lost haha. (mods, if you do find it... uhh... merge or delete this one.)

In anycase, this is a Thread for musicians (studying formally or self-taught are all welcome) to discuss whatever they like. [IE: Gear, Bands, Your Band, Scale discussions, Tips Tricks and Techniques (TTT) and Advices on things like buying amps and gears.]

Alright Musicians, Discuss away~!! but I think I should be the one lighting it up huh? XD

Gear: Do you have something that is REALLY REALLY expensive? (I mean, like a Mesa Boogie Mark IV, Diezel Herbert/VH4, Bogner Uberschall and the likes)

Scales: Which do you use frequently?

Alright that should start things up I guess. Post away~!! :D

Hehe, Archeo are you going to share you stuff with us too? xD!

Well I got both a drums and Guitar hehe

Drums: Ludwig Accent CS Custom

Guitar: Ephiphone Les Paul Standard :D

I'm not sure which one I'm better at though. I've been playing guitar longer than drums, but I have gotten really good with the drums lately. I'm surprising myself xD

Start with the classics :D Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, some Motley Crue and all that good stuff wouldn't hurt either. Too many bands are coming out with thrash sound these days and its bothering me.

Well this is the 'Musician Thread' I believe singers are Musicians as well :D Singers are probably the biggest part of the band in my point of view.

The Used and Matchbox fell off to me. I'm sticking to the type of bands that are currently coming out of Sweden.

Hardcore Superstar
Crashdiet

ARCHEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this was the PERFECT thread to make my 100th post in (although it's kinda sad that it's JUST 100).

Well, recently, a couple of my musician friends and I have been working on some songs (that I've been writing -- mainly bass lines and drum tracks), but the best advice that I can give is to start out simple. We started with covers of Maiden songs and a Dream Theater song, so we know what kind of sound we're looking for (sort of a prog-thrash sound, as weird as that sounds :p).

Just experiment with things. Find songs that everyone likes, learn a few, then see what happens! :)

Haaa I could ndx and Caleb Lmao, glad you could make it on the thread at least though the older thread was a hit but I don't know where it ended up on...

In which case,

My most expensive would be most likely... my Ibanez RG560... LoL and for Cloud-san, Best tip I could give is to listen to some songs first. Pick out the bands that you like, dig up their music and find something that is easy enough or near challenge for you. :p

RIght now, We're covering Van Halen's Ain't Takin' 'Bout Love, Metallicas Seek and Destroy and Racer Xs Let Your Spirit Fly. I do fills, the solos, backing vocals on the tracks but on occasion... Bass (if no one plays bass), Rhythm, Lead, Vocals...

No joke, but Van Halen, Aint Talking about love is like one of my favorite songs ever. I would love to hear the song being covered by your band one day. If you ever have a video of it you should post it up, or send it to me personally :D

Ahaha sure thing ndx~!! I've got no problems letting someone hear our band... ;) and at the least I would love to record it on Video as well for assessment purposes and stuff.

Oh and I've been playing... 2 years, nearing my 2 and a half this summer. And you are right ndx, Any one is welcomed here. ^^ after all, this is a thread for musicians on every genre and for everyone, regardless of what they play and sing. ;)

The stuff me and my bad cover are:
Hardcore Superstar: Standing on the verge (No one probably really knows it. They're an awesome band from Sweden.)
Motley Crue: Home Sweet Home & Don't go away mad. (Yes we try it with a keyboard XD)
The Who: Won't get fooled again
Skid Row: 18 and life
Black Sabbath: Paranoid :D

Hahaha~!! I'm actually planning on doing some Motley Crue covers... I'm thinking... Bitter Pill, Dr. Feelgood, Wild Side and Primal Scream. :p And some Ozzy/Black Sabbath like Supernaut, Snowblind and Crazy Train. :D

Anyways I guess I gotta go and have a bit of rest LoL, my thighs and legs feels... light haha, I'll talk again tomorrow. ^^ See you all later~!! :D

I wish i could get a band together, but people just don't like to do that kinda stuff around here (or they're already busy blah, blah, blah).

Everythime I try to start one, SOMEONE, has to quit... or we can't find a drummer, or they don't have time... or they get killed.... so sad :(

I'm now trying to do solo work, but I don't have any good recording making software, or a mixer. (Seeming how i can't do anything but sing and pin-peck at a keybpard...)

Do you know any good software I could try to us?

hey everyone, I play guitar ^-^ but I'm kinda new to playing electric guitar (played acoustic before) right now I just want to learn as much as I possibly can, but I need songs to practice, and I just can't find any. I really like to play metal, but I'm not that skilled T-T .. and power chord songs bore me 'cause they're too easy.. does anyone know anything in between? easy but not too easy XD. I'm a singer too btw :D
oh and does anyone have a tip for me? Whenever I play guitar for someone else, my hands get weak and shakey T-T and it really sucks :'( how do i stop that :p
----------
@joshwah,, I've got the same problem :( nobody I know wants to start a band (except for 1 person who doesn't play an instrument) I don't know any good recording software..

Your shaking of the hands and stuff is most likely stage fright.

I used to have a serious case of this.

Once during a musical, i messed up a whole entire song because of it, and after that i was afraid to sing for like 3 months...

What I did was just sucked it up, I know that sounds kinda harsh, but i convinced myself that I was a good singer.

So, first tell yourself that you are a great gutarist, don't worry about what people may think... and besides, if your really nervous, and then do it any way, the adrenenline boosts your talents 10 fold, making you sound and feel way better than any practice, the thrill of performing is great, once you get past the butterflies and cotton mouth :P

Whatever you do, don't picture people naked... it makes you wanna throw up ^^

WOW!
I've found someone who sounds exactly like I used to. :p
OK, if you like metal, and don't like power chords... try Rush or Iron Maiden! (Maiden has SOME power chords)
I learned about 20 of their songs when I started!
Fairly easy stuff to play :)
... but now about the stage fright.
OK, I played at a talent show with some friends last year, and I totally "anal-ed" the solo of a Dream Theater song. I knew it fine, I just got freaked out, because all the attention was on me. After the show, a guy came up to me while I was practicing, and asked why I "sucked so bad". I handed him my guitar, got up out of my seat, and asked him to play it for me. lol
After many failed attempts at getting the first 2 notes down, he handed me my guitar, apologized, and walked off.

If you KNOW you're better than the person criticizing you, they have no place to complain, because they are most likely just jealous.

hope this helped some! :D

Nice, a thread I think I'll find myself lurking in hahaha.

I own a:

Stagg Metal Bass, which is on its way out to be fair.

A Peavey Milestone

A rather nice Behringer amp that my bro never really uses now, was meant to be around £345 but he got it at a low £210.

My electric guitar is a Dimeblade Dean guitar, based on Pantera' lead guitarist.

I suppose I use my brother's Epiphone thunderbird a bit though.

I'm currently learning how to write music and have got a few bass lines on the go. I'm more experienced at bass as I'vep layed it for 4 years, guitar I picked up 8 months ago.

Bands that inspired me are:

Trivium
Carpathian Forest
Marduk
The Cult
The mission
UK Decay
Sanctity
Mortiis

etc.

Iron Maiden is tough to do. What songs do you intend on doing? Number of the beast? Run for the hills? They're all pretty hard to sing xD

Iron Maiden was the first band we attempted, it didn't go well for us haha.

Haha Lmao, I'd say go for the easiest song your favourite band has to offer.

To be honest, I 'had' to just work my way up from local bands' songs here to Metallica then work onto Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Paul Gilbert.

And remember, do it slowly and steady (accurate) and you will eventually get there. No need for rush, you do not need to unless you're in a tight spot.

Lmao~!! I 'JUST' got to ask, who has here Van Halen MP3 Songs?!?! I JUST got to get ahold of every Van Halen song, I AM craving for the most is their cover of The Kinks' "You Really Got Me"

I'm a muscian and a singer.
Though I can play the guitar, I can also play......the piano -.-
Not as exciting, but heck its something.
I like most of the older sounding stuff.

GUITAR SOLOS ARE AWESOME. I love twin guitar solos when they are on the same pitch, but one starts off before the other and then the other catches up.
