Even if you wanted too, your hard drive is to small. Vista takes 10GB's (at least). Duno where you gona put your progs.

Vista and older IGPs (integrated graphics) dont get along at all and im not even sure that they will work good even with Aero disabled. it may be possible if the HDD was upgraded but im not too sure. it all depends on the drivers and whether or not the motherboard is supported by vista.

either way, i think you should stick with XP SP2. it is more in the realm of your system and you'll get more sheer performance with it.

upgrade your hard drive and get more ram, and install a better video card, and it should work fine

it doesnt matter how old the board is, what matters is whether or not the manufacturer has drivers for it to run in vista. go to the ECS website and find some vista drivers. if they dont have them, then you are kinda screwed.....

every once in a while vista doesnt have the right drivers to automatically load hardware so i wouldnt trust my system to run off them too much.

Even though my system meets Vista requiremnts. it sucks it dont worht buying. its just Win Xp uplifting with too much bottlenecks. Win Xp is better than Vista... Dont know what Bill has done to this product.....It was supposed to be the revolution but is just regression... It just can't beat MacOS.

My rig:
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-945PL-S3
CPU: Pentium D 3.4 Ghz
RAM: 2 GB Corsair DHX DDR2 800
GPU: Geforce 7600GS 512 MB
Power Supply: 350 Watt FSp
Sound: Creative Audigy 4
OS. Windows Vista Ultimate

Will surely upgrade but no $$. wanna buy a Geforce 9600 GT, a new mobo, a new 600w Power Supply....

Well u must upgrade ur PC but i recommend you to stick to Win Xp:ukitake:

You can download the Vista Upgarde Advisor app to verify if your system meets the specs...

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=65926&clcid=0x409

...this'll give you an analysis whether your PC will work with vista and will suggest which version of vista will work best with your machine specs, you can check out your MBs webpage also to see if they have update drivers, the same with the other hardware in your machine... it's true vista hogs up a lot of space especially since it automatically creates shadow copies of files (file backups) but these can be disabled (but you'd be better off upgrading to a larger drive at least).

but if you have xp, stick with it, vista is a resource hog and you'll only have vista theme and classic theme (windowblinds 6 seems to have flaws so i disabled it on mine) but then again if your willing to take the risk just be sure that your hardware can support vista (especially the graphics card) and download vista compatible drivers (i did an install on my sister's PC and I couldn't get the video card and sound card to work since vista doesn't support it):mayuri:

I agree with jleepl. I recommend that you stick to Windows XP. Windows Vista looks cool and all but it doesn't run that well unless you have a high class computer. I guess it could run if you turned off all the cool effects but Windows XP should serve you just fine.

My advice is don't upgrade to vista just yet. Do more research and save up to buy new equipment. Even pc's that come pre-installed with vista don't work out too well. Stick to your XP for now. :mayuri:

If you are having problems with viruses try AVG Free Edition. I use it and have never had any trouble.:)

that's right the file extensions have an x tagged along with it. you should have saved it to a compatible version first. You can download a compatibility pack for ms office products so that you can view them on office 97, 2000, xp, 2003 versions. :mayuri:

Yeah .... I tried using the new MS office ... but as said ... you need to save it in another format .. MS office saves it by default in .docx format ... and doing the "save as" stuff is pretty annoying if you have to do it all the time .... I never did found out how to make the new MS office to save files to the .doc format by default .... That's why I use the older version on my XP machine .... :mayuri:

a simple tip benhur99ph fukitaicho:

You do the following so you can default office 2007 to save in .doc instead of .docx

1. click the Office Button, word options.
2. click save and in the 'save files in this format' box select the 'Word 97 - 2003 Document and click Ok.

Hope this helps you out :hollowichigo:

Those specs are ok but for complete efficiency i think that you should upgrade the ram to 2gb and the shared video memory to above 512mb for quality, clarity and crisp images.
The ram increment is to ensure that the OS is run effectively.
