well so far speculation is hinting that this version of windows will be way more efficient than Windows Vista and will not allocate as much resources as Vista.

I hope these rumors are true....because I have a Laptop that has Vista...and....I don't like it >.<

my bro has vista on his laptop too. its not that great. i think they were codenaming vienna to windows "7" though. they said it only runs in 40Mb of memory.

Well I've heard those rumors as well...but I'm sure that will soon change as the project gets more underway. I just hope they can fit all that into a 800 MB disc and not a DVD.

yep, i've read articles on this one and things aren't that clear yet whether it'll be a better OS than Vista or XP for that matter anyway, one way or the other it won't be free from the plagues experienced by XP and VISTA... there are still a lot of speculations happening and for now all we can do is wait and watch...

ever since i downloaded and installed (legitly) the vista beta 2 CTP on my 1.5 ghz 512mb amd board (:eek::eek:!) i havent been too impressed with it. i hope they figure out a way to fit everything into a small core. something atleast as small as xp. that way i can actually run it on a high freq pentium III or a celeron or something like that.

i was able to dnld a "lite" version of vista, the installer fits in a single CD-R. I haven't tried it though, the author who hacked it said he removed a few of the files that hogged vista... i'll post the link here when i find it again though i have the CD with me... :D

Vista-lite... now that's something. Maybe the author who hacked it did an even better job at removing the bugs in the system. Kindly give us the link once you find it again.. thanks... I would love to try it... hehehe... :mayuri:

If its as good as XP is now, without being a resource hog like vista, and without useless and never used features (like vista) then it should be good.

Just needs to be:

1. Secure.
2. Good Performance.
3. Stable
4. Boots quickly

I surely hope so...because Vista is a pain when it comes to booting up on a slow and mediocre laptop like mine....I hope to switch to this when it comes out and I hope its soon because Vista frustrates me.

xp has unused features too like that annoying automatic updates tool, the tour, stupid animated dog, compatibility wiz, and the list goes on... but yea, i really hope it has a stable tiny core.

I just finished installing the hacked vista on my Dell Optiplex SX280 (3.0 Ghz P4 HT with 512 DDR RAM), it installed in less than an hour. I had a bit of problems along the way (drivers) but solved them, luckily the old xp drivers worked, for now it's bare bones and need to activate it first and then I'll reinstall some applications and configurations and see how fast this trimmed down vista is :mayuri:

>.< hey, does the "light" (lets call it that for now on) vista burn to a regular 700mb cd? i tried it twice and it failed. i have one cd left and dont feel like making a trip to the store.

I asked my cousin to try and install "light" and he said that it worked out perfectly. He had some problems with the video playback at first but managed to install codecs... So now, it all ok.... I'm gonna check with him when I go home later.. in about 10 hours that is.. haha.. :mayuri:

sadly my install worked but there seems to be a glitch, now everytime i open and close ALL explorer windows i get an explorer.exe error and everything goes blank and reloads i thought it was my video, audio, and sound driver but they seemed to work ok and installed. check out your cousins PC for the same error... shame and here i thought it would go well for me... but anyway, it loads fast, faster than xp on my machine, except for this glitch maybe i'll look for the author of this source...

mine is burned onto a regular CD-R maybe you should try a different brand of CD. i used a regular 700mb/80min CD... i think behnur99ph's download worked ok. well, if you do succeed in the burn and install process hope you won't get the same error i posted awhile ago :(

all is working fine, updates, installs, except for the explorer.exe crashing, i should test this on a vista ready machine if it emulates the same problem...
----------
-----------

finally, it's fixed, no more explorer crashes.

What i did:

1. Go to Control Panel, Appearance and Personalization, Folder Options, View and ticked/checked 'Launch folder windows in a separate process'

:D I hope no other problems come out, but if one does i'd be ready to whack at it. :mayuri:

I checked it out.... and there's no error.. now I'm tempted to install it into my laptop.. I'm just afraid that my hardware will have problems, especially with wifi and power settings.. :mayuri:

ok i installed it, everything is ok. here are a few things that arent in the light version: no sounds, wallpapers, media center, and the crack was a trojan. (not that i'd use it anyway but still...) and i lost my cd key, so... yea. i have 30 days grace period. everything works fine though. and it turns out my cd burner was trash.

Well hope it will soon be out and much better than that crap of Windows Vista.. Windows Xp ismuch better than it....What Microsoft will reserve us with that Vienna if its new OS or maybe its just a project that they are begining to replace Vista in 5 or more year just as with Win Xp......

I do hope that Windows 7 will be better ... way better than vista... cause ... vista really disappointed a lot of people ... in the span of time that they waited for a new os to rival xp.. well they waited for something that not everybody can use .... :mayuri:

I hope things would work with the next Windows version, yeah i do admit they've removed a lot on the light vista and also there's no system restore (found it useful every now and then, good thing is no 'volume shadowing'), yep no system sounds, and yep there are activators with trojans, but i do have a working one no trojans if you want to continue experimenting. for the most part MS should just have called this vista as WinXPse like win98se cause it seems that they only redesigned the interface and added space hog apps and bandwith leeches.... maybe they ought to have placed in the control panel an app that resembles tweakxp... anyway .... i'll just be getting used to it since the long wait starts now...

erm.. you say you have a working crack :) would you mind sendin me a copy please? :D and the vista and xp bandwidth/resource hog supports my "use windows 2000" statement. :( not much compatibility though (but no activation :)) doesnt it still cost more than xp?
