I tried Windows Longhorn once. But didn't have the serial to it. Some people said they were looking forward to it. then Microsoft scrapped it and made Vista. I was just wondering if any of you have ever tried Longhorn Beta.

You're talking about this right? (look at the lower left side and yes, we just reinstalled it lol)

If you're talking about that then it's Windows XP SP3. (Service Pack 3)
IF you're going to ask if it's good or something, I'll tell you it loads fast and stuff but sometimes do have some errors. I do not know anyone here (in our area) who uses SP3 Longhorn as well so I (or we) do not have any knowledge if it is normal to have errors here and there.

Did that just come out? Never seen it before. I actually was talking about the Windows Longhorn beta that Microsoft started building before Vista. I guess they scrapped the project then built Vista. I guess they started it up again or something. I have an old pirated beta CD of Longhorn that I got way before Vista came out. Their logo looked like this.

Is this the same thing just started back up again?

Well, I'm not pretty sure about it Benhur as it's my bro who installs - reinstalls and whatever else that needed to be done on the comp almost everyday.
Though I think it's not the one Microsoft released, or so I think it is in any case. >_<

There is no Windows Longhorn. Windows Longhorn was the code name for Vista and there where 2 rc released before they released another 2 of the final project Vista and then after 4 beta versions they released the final product, Vista. Why do you think Longhorn looks like Vista but has a different emblem?
If you are not talking about that Longhorn then it's just a version of XP made by hackers long before they knew Longhorn will be named Vista, or it's just a theme for XP and there are more than 20. But no Longhorn does not exist as a Windows.

Yes, I know that Longhorn is not an official Windows. I was talking about the Longhorn thing that was supposed to be the beginning of Windows Vista. I was just wondering if anybody had been goofing around with it. I have beta versions of Windows Vista too. Got them straight from Microsoft before Windows Vista was released.:D

I don't know if you can do that. I never tried it. I doubt you could do it legally though. If you could Microsoft probably wouldn't have given us beta versions for only about $20.00. (I can't remember the exact price.) I only paid for the first one though. The others were free. I guess you could upgrade, if you wanted to, but you would have to buy the genuine CD and serial.;)

just FYI Longhorn was the project name way back in like 1998 or there abouts for what started off as a replacement for NT, then kept on going and going despite the release of Win 2000 and XP I believe some time around XP's release the desktop side of things (that became Vista) got spun off as its own project from the original Longhorn project. Longhorn continued on its way to eventually become MS Windows Server 2008.
So Vista _was_ longhorn... or more to the point some parts of what became Vista came from the original Longhorn project. The project name ceased to be officially associated with the desktop side a quite few years back but a lot of people out in the tech world still incorrectly referred to the, then, upcoming Vista product as "longhorn".
Neither my self or any of my co-workers have had a play with or even delved to deep in to the specs of Server 2008 yet so no comment on the "true" Longhorn. Hopefully it will retain a lot of the cool behind the scenes stuff that got axed from Vista like the dynamic object oriented file system catalog and lose all the pointless eye candy (not needed on servers).
Edit: just scanned through some 3rd party info on sever 2008 and na looks like they are staying with NTFS file handling system.. ah well

I have never really used it myself. I have the CD kicking around somewhere. I once tried to install it but didn't have the license key. It was a cracked version too.:D I heard that some people like it quite well though.
