Hi
I want to get a new computer and i want it to have good stuff inside it like graphics card and processors and stuff...
any suggestions?

That depends on what you want to use it for...
If you are interested in portability, but still want to be able to do things like play games or do graphic design, you'd probably want to go with one of the better laptops. If you wanted just something simple that you could do word-processing and email on, then you'd probably be ok with a simple desktop pc.
If you wanted to play newer games on high-graphics levels, or do complex rendering in 3D-design suites, then you might want to consider building your own, custom pc, or getting one done for you.
The possibilities of computers are almost unlimited, so it really just depends on what you want to do.

If you want to get something that is customized just for you then you need to call Dell. :) They are the best desktops next to Sony's in my opinion.
Of course...you could always just get a Mac. Hehe. ^_^

Basically depends on what your using it for. If it's gaming then get a computer with alot of memory that can handle the process of uploading games.

I think you should get the best pc specs that you can afford. Because computers keep on changing all the time and what seems like an "okay pc" today will undoubtedly be left behind in a few months ... so if you can ... go all out on memory and HDD space .... video cards too... :mayuri:

First of all your budget must count do a little canvassing, and i mean going from store to store most of the time the video card, CPU, and memory are what you need to consider the most so that you don't get lags when playing today's high-end games even custom built unbranded PCs work fine just as long as your hardware components meet the minimum requirements, read through system requirements from a particular PC games' webpage to give you an idea of what specs of PC to look for. good luck!!!

I suppose so, well generally speaking, it really depends on what you want to do with it, if you're gonna edit movies, music, computer animation, etc. well there are specific hardware requirements you need to comply, too, but if you're into gaming and general document editing, watching movies, listening to music, etc. you'll be fine... if you want better sound quality kick in a few bucks to invest in a high end soundcard]... :hollowichigo:

If you want a PC that pretty much can do it all then you're right .. get a good gaming pc ... and if your gonna get one .. try and see if you can afford one that can play Crysis .... I heard its one of the best games to come out recently ... graphics-wise .... I'm not a Pc gamer myself .. but if it can handle Crysis .. then its good enough .... :mayuri:
Moptophaha
03-12-2008, 03:17 AM
That might be going a bit overboard...a PC capable of playing crysis can cost around several thousand dollars (US)...
Playing modern games, but not necessarily that ultra-graphics intensive ones, like Half-Life 2, Bioshock or Dark-Messiah might be more realistic, unless you are prepared to spend that much.
Also, if you want to buy a PC capable of gaming, then you would definitely want to avoid Dell, as their PC's are not really customizable with anything but Dell parts, and this can prove quite limiting.
There are other companies that offer customizable computers, without you having to do the assembly.

Well, if you're looking for a gaming-type computer then I suggest "Alienware" they are the best around, although they're expensive it's worth it.
If you're just looking for an all-round computer I vouch for Dell (http://www.dell.com/).

ive seen the alienware computers, they seem really good....but really expensive....

Alienware falls under the same, evil category as Dell.
When it was first set-up, it was great, but then the evil force known as Dell bought them, and now they're pretty much the same, just aimed at a different market. :(

From personal experience i think that building your own PC is easier and cheaper, but if you have no idea how to do it then i would say dell is the best.make sure it has a good graphics card like geforce 8600 or higher!

Mac's are alright, they take a little getting used to.
For the best price compared to performance, I'd check out:

They have custom built computers for pretty cheap (as far as high-end desktops go) with a variety of choices. Plus they have easily upgradeable parts! :D
Check them out.

I've heard Dells were unreliable but I've never owned one so I wouldn't know. But I do know that Dells are priced great if your on a budget. I own a Mac and they're the best desktop PCs ever. I've owned other PCs and nothing even comes close to the Mac. Its super user friendly, has great graphics, processing, memory, etc. but it did cost a pretty penny; its worth every one though.

i read in the first page that some ppl said dells are the best, or good
im sorry, i dont wanna be mean and start a argument, but what rock did you croll under from?
dells are the worst computers ever, i give them the cheapest title but not best, even their xps are too expensive for the quality that you get
in my job i came to realize that dells are the worst the hard way,
a few things that i could point out is that if you own a dell and want to upgrade something you have to do it through dell or you have a 80% chance of fu**ing your computer up
good ones would would be sony but they are expensive and requre all things to be sony in order to get best performance
if you want the best, built it yourself,
once again sorry for the outburts at dell loving ppl
lol, they did have a funny comercial " dude, i got a dell"

If you want a nice computer and want it customized (like me) I would recommend newegg.com. It is the best place to buy all the parts for a extremely nice computer. But then again, if you want one all packaged up and ready to go then you can buy a HP or something. My HP laptop seems to run well. I never have had any problems with it.
Bozza023
03-22-2008, 01:25 AM
how much would it cost if u wanted to customize a computer and u want to above average quality and performance..?
around $2,000?
★ BozzA ★
Moptophaha
03-22-2008, 06:41 AM
Above average would be more like 1000, good would be 2000, and excellent would be 3000.
If you wanted to be ridiculous, you could probably spend about 10,000 on a PC, but the difference in performance wouldn't make it nearly worth it.

I got a sweet discount through my company for my Mac and I only had to pay 1600 dollars for something that retailed for almost 2000. The best approach overall is to build your own computer. Its the most cheapest way to have a computer plus you can customize the hardware to your liking. This approach is only good if you know how to build a PC on your own or if you know someone directly that can do it for you. But really, there isn't a point to spending a ridiculous amount of money on a computer that will be outdated in a few months so just find something that will suit your needs.

The best computers I know is Dell, gateway, and HP so thats my pick.
imo, dell's are really good as far as laptops go. they are one of the more customizeable companies and the prices arent too bad either. although i am still stuck running vista but thats a whole other ball park..... but as far as desk tops go, i would say get a scratch built ( if u know anything about computers that is). the main reason, they are cheaper. i can get a very good desktop for 1500 AUD that would cost me alot more if i got it from dell. but as i said, that's just my opinion.

See if by computer you mean to say laptops then i believe the most important two thing to keep in mind is :
Cost
Features.
apple and sony will cost a fortune if you want a good config, but they have a class of there own
But for low cost and good spec dell is best(b'coz they are customizable :) ) and then HP. Incase of others you can also look at Asus/toshiba/fijitsu etc...
if you intend to buy it for gaming and other high end stuff, i suggest you get a Desktop(if portability is not an issue) because you will have to shell out less and more over you can upgrade it later too.

★ BozzA ★
hey BozzA
overclocking is the most a CPU can do or a graphic card, for example it says it can run 2000 lines a sec but normally it would do 1500, overclocking would be 2000, i know that really bad explanation but i cant explain it in terms u'd understand (u said ur not good with computers)
back to the point im posting
do not buy a dell if your looking for a good computer
customize ur own, its simple to put it together(they even have drawn pic on how to
here are some specs
Case: Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower case ($120)
mother board: 2x PCI express, socket 775 (acer, gigabit, msi, nvidia)(around $200 would be good)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz LGA 775 Processor - 775 slot, memory support, 680i ($188 on new egg)
RAM (memory): CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM (corsair makes some of the best memory and cheap) ($100)
Power Supply: Corsair 750 power supply ($120-200)
VideoCard: Geforce 8800 gtx (BFG, ACER, evga) ($550)
HardDrive: hitachi 500GB sata ($93.99 on zipzoomfly.com)
keyboard/mouse: logitech is good (anywhere from $60-100 is good)
with these specs u spend about $1600 the most wich equals around the same as ur 2000AUD, and the computer should be good for at least 5yrs, mine i customized 6yrs ago can kick some of the $2000 computers a$$ today
anyways these specs i gave u are good for gamin and anything graphical, the video card is th ebest outthere(besides the triple SLI), im pretty sure 500GB should be more htan enough for you to begin with , 2GB of memory is ok, u could add more, the power supply needs to be 800+wttsand you could add more drives or anything to the computer and it would be fine
anyways , i would recomend u built ur own instead of buying dell, i work with computers and dell's are the most problematic ones, if u need more help or a more detailed specs of a computer PM me
sounds like a good machine, but u should get the alienware triple 8800 mod version :D 2.1 TB of graphics memory ftw!

ok ok. Don't you guys see he says he's not good with computers. Stop flooding his head with duo core and 2.1 TB (R U Nuts!).
I also agree that for your money building your own, or going to a gaming store and having them build it for you is the best option. If you know someone who has built PC's then ask them. Once you do it once it is like second nature.
2000 dollars is plent for a Top Notch computer. I built my computer in 2005, and although it was outdated by the time I built, it works great for med-medhigh graphics games. I can play half-life2 beautifully and doom3 is fine.
And the catch. I only spent 800 dollars.
My rig:
Pentium 4 3.0E Ghz (prescott core) w/ HT
ATI Radeon 9800 pro 256mb
1GB DDR SDRAM
Seagate 80 GB HD (I regret not getting more.)
Gigabyte Motherboard (also regret this)
Sure this isn't anything special. But for the money I was willing to spend 3 years ago, and for the games I wanted to play, it works just fine.
Theres a few things you need to look into, deciding upon how high-end you want to go:
Processor: Pentium or AMD - I like pentium but I've heard great things about amd for gaming. If you get AMD you dont need 3.0 GHZ. I think the equivalent is something like 1.8. a 3.0 p4 hasn't caused me any ingame speed and need to "overclock" (definately don't overclock if you are a PC noob) Pentium Dual-Core is a great product nowadays, but remember to stay within your range.
Memory: How much? Well I use 1GB and thats the LOWEST I recommend if you want to play games and if you just generally like to do multiple things at once. I can surf 10 web pages, watch a movie, download bleach etc, and scan my PC for viruses without lag. 2GB would be a safe bet. Now theres all kinds of new technologies DDR2 and whatever, I look at individual products, their reviews and how they compare to other more expensive things when buying.
Motherboard: This is your essential product. Because these are usually tailored to individual processor types and graphics card types. So you might want to get something flexible (not literally like bending it--oh god please dont bend it) when it comes to new improving technology.
Graphics card: Nvidia or ATI-----AGP or the New SLI (i believe?)
This is also one of the most important features if you are gaming. Look on websites about the games you play and see what other people are using. Like I said, Mine was outdated when I got it, but it does fine for what I need. (except the little piece of junk 40mm fan finally died). Personally I think SLI is overated. The technology was made so quickly that AGP wasn't used to its potential. If you want the BEST graphics on the Most Visually Psychotic Games, then You might consider buying two graphics cards. If this is your route than you need to buy SLI.
These four things are your basics for building a Gaming RiG. Ofcourse you should buy a HD that has enough space for your liking. If you plan on downloading alot of music (alot is like 30,000 songs and up) and alot of movies. Then you want a big HD. 250GB would do you just fine. I dont even know if I have the time to fill one of those (well I could, but I wouldnt need to). Then you need a CD/DVD burner, Power supply (500w+ if you have higher end stuff), and a soundcard (good idea, the sound on motherboards are usaully crap).
Then you need to buy a Case that can hold all your crap, and it's got to be ventilated because these suckers burn like the fires from hell, and the last thing you want to do is melt your money.
To make it easy. Go to a website like www.newegg.com or www.tigerdirect.com and look for "pre-built" machines. I'm sure you will find a very nice machine in your range 1500-2000 and you'll soon be gaming with the best!
Hope this helps you. whew im tired, and I probably said something stupid up there, but i havnt thought about this stuff in a LONG time.
Dont take a bunch of ppl's opinions on BA.org as gospel (especially mine). When I built my first I researched and researched on review sites and PC oriented forums. Not that the people here dont know what they're talking about, it's just not the place I would go for PC advice.

The 2048mb ddr2 isnt slow. Thats 2gb
I would guess that if what I think is correct, you have 2 hard drives. One 500gb one 3 gb. The 3gb would be used to put your operating system on and other system folders and such.

This is a very vast question. I mean this question has plenty of answers and additional inconclusive questions.
First you have to know what you want to do with the computer either coursework, video gaming, watching movies, playing music, animations and many other activities or works.
I personally am pursuing a degree in computer science so my computer has to be powerful enough to deal with all the coursework and projects we are given, my laptop is a HP laptop series HP Pavilion dv6000, its quite power and efficient.
So my vote for now will go to HP.
