IPod Touch

Played with the iPod Touch at a shop a few days ago, it's so cool and pretty! Anyone using it? Any problems with it? :)

iPhone and iPod are generally overrated and over hyped. Other than the beautiful interface that you get and the touch screen, there's nothing else. Apple is practically charging people premium over the use of existing technology, they claim that it is revolutionary.
In the tech( not consumers' point of view) world, apple products is very much hated since they twist fact and rob people of their money.

Even though the iPod Touch looks cool, it cost a lot and it only has 16GB. My 80GB iPod cost less and you can't compare the capacity. I would stick with the original one. At least until the make the Touch with more GB.

I think, in all honesty, that the iPod Touch isn't worth it. It is relatively useless technology that is just a nift gadget for a massive price. They sacrifice the space of the iPod to make it affordable.

There is no way I'd get one.

I use it and it's kind a wierd, I love it though cause it is given to me, but I don't like bringing it in school or any where else.

I started to think of not using it cause of my phone, for me iPod is just for music things and my phone has it so I really don't need it right now.

Ahh how sweet of your auntie!

But I think having an iPod just for music is good for saving your phone's battery life. That's a significant advantage if you use it a lot or if you are always lazy to charge your gadgets. :)

i used to have an iPhone but then I sold it for the iPod Touch... I didn't need the phone with the sidekick 3 (and the slide come november) so the iPod Touch does me well as a show off device.

i bought an iPod classic 160gb just for all that music and movies i have. i only filled 115gb, so i think it'll last me until 2008. I want a nano, but i doubt I'll use it...

The iPod touch is nice tho. If you really need a phone, you can mod it to be a Wifi Phone... but i haven't tried to do it yet...

i would never buy anything ipod except for the nanos. i have a first gen one, and its great. i might get a new one (8gigs of course) so i can watch bleach on it. the quickest way to learning japanese is not being able to read the subtitles :P. i think the new ipods are just overkill. seriously. its just an mp3 player, u dont need to cram all this other stuff into it. again, i would never buy the iphone, we dont have it here yet anyways (unless u want to unlock it) but again, i use my phone to make phone calls, i dont need all these other extras that i have to pay heaps for. plus it was mentioned earlier, if ur mp3 player runs out of batteries, ur phone is screwed too if theyre all in one. so yeah, i wouldnt get an ipod touch, just a nano. they have flash memory which means u can run with it, without the skipping music.

we've got one at work. i havent had a go with it (ive tried, i think the batteries might be dead), but it looks all right. and then i see the price. 500+ AUD for a 16 gig model. yay, features i wont use that will cost me extra...

WOW.. hey hey hey - I'd like to take serious exception to that last part.
I'm not going to get in to Mac V's Windows (a totally stupid, pointless, topic who's protagonists on both sides only show themselves for being borderline idiots) but as to

instead of throwing around worthless stats pulled from one side or the other give you, let me give this one, simple, fact:

I've work as a tech support person for over 15 years (from helpdesk to hardware to desktop to server and now as a manager supporting everything from Windows PCs, Macs, all the various flavours of servers and even, in days of yore, Mainframes ), were I work now we support over 2000 desktop computers with 99.5% of them being Windows boxes. To support this we employ 13 techs, system admin's and managers. 9 of them are purely Windows techs or admins, the other are: 3x Windows + Unix techs and 1 is a 50% manager and 50% technical officer doing support broken down to 90% Windows + 10% Mac tech work (to support the 10 Mac users we have).

Of those 13 techs, system admins and IT managers 12 of them own Macs as their own personal machines.. that is 12 out of 13 (or 92%) of them have purchased, out of their own pocket, using their own money, Apple Mac computers. Most of them (8) own MacBooks, 3 own MacBook Pro and 1 (that would be me) owns a MacPro tower.
If this sounds like universal Apple hate from techs then it's in some sort of mad, twisted, masochistic, world of opposites.


Anyway that aside back to the original poster's question my opinion of the Touch is that - it's a great concept, it works very well, but until the cost of flash memory and "large" small LCD screens drops considerably the price point is far too high for me. I'll stick to my 5th Gen 60GB iPod Video for a quite a while yet.

oh an i agree about the macs being despised. ive got a mate who runs web hosting, and he takes his macbook with him everywhere. its a pretty good laptop. but as u said, lets not get into the whole mac v windows thing, that would be frustrating....

I'd prefer to have this iPod touch than the iPhone because i don't like AT&T service. I would rather get an iPod Touch and a Verizon real web browsing phone (doesn't matter which one). The iPod touch rocks :D

Here's some fun facts for you people thinking about buying one...
if you plan on using it's wifi browser, be prepared to need to charge it. That drains battery life like nothing I've ever seen. About 45 minutes -1 hour long.
if you want to watch movies, then you won't be able to listen to music. Apple can't compress stuff at all. On the 8 gig you can maybe get 2 movies, with no music.

since i can't use the IPhone here in the philippines(of course we can, we just need to hack the system but i won't waste my time in doing that) i'd prefer the touch rather than the phone.. for i really want is an Mp3 player so i just need the touch, in fact hi-tech phones are not preferable in my point of view :hitsugaya:

i dunno. ull pay an arm and a leg just for internet usage, and its not that much more hard drive space. 16 gigs is expensive too. i personally prefer the nano anyday. and about the any website thing, i think u can, it has safari after all. just jump on the apple website and watch the tour of it to find out everything.

the ipod touch looks cool but i am not going to think about buying it untill they reliece one that has more memory because i have completely filled my current ipod with videos and i need a bigger mp3 player not a smaller one

If I was to get one I would be thankful for it but I would just say to the person " Are you carzy I could of spent the money on something esle!" Also I just got a envy a it's been a week I already lost it the, IPhone would be nothing but a lost item.
So I think it's just a over priced item screwing with people just so that they spend money but the company is just letting money rush threw the door. But I gotta agree it is PRETTY!

I just have a plain old 30GB Ipod and I'm not even half-way through
filling it up yet, I guess I just take forever - I have some space for
video but the majority goes to mp3's. I've seen the ITouch and to
be honest it looks fine but I've heard there are to different makes for
it (one with 8GB of memory which is the one I've seen along with
everything else and the 16GB which holds more but still is just the same)

These things are ridiculously overpriced and over-advertised!
But hey whatever floats your boat (I wouldn't mind having one though)
