my first colored manga

this is my first digital work, its the cover of bleach manga volume 1, i remade the lineart and colored it, tell me your opinions and suggestions, enjoy, and tell me which of the three versions is better

I like the 2nd one the best. The lighting looks so fine :3

I like the second one best too. The lighting and shading looks better. Have you ever thought about using the blending modes and air brushing to get a better result? You do it like this.

1) Set the original manga image to Linear Light.
2) Create a new layer under the first layer. Rename it 'Hair' (if you're coloring the hair first )
Take out a custom brush and start coloring the hair. Use a median toned orange color (for ) and don't worry too much about coloring a little out of the line (it won't show)
3) Lock the transparency of the hair layer. (this is IMPORTANT)
4) Take out the air brush and set the the flow (or opacity) to 5%
5) Select a darker color and start airbrushing the areas you want to shade with a darker color Like the tips of the hair or near the roots.
6) When you're done with the dark shades, select a lighter color and fill in the highlights.
7) Change the areas you don't like using the burn or dodge tool.
8) Use a new layer for a different layer (like the skin)

PS: I've tried this technique and it really works for me.

wow mate that's some nice work did u use a adobe program cause ive been trying to use adobe illustrator but Ive been having a hard time getting the right images to draw over (or hand drawn) and Ive been trying to find the best way to colour it me and some of my teacher at school has been talking about bridging the illustrator file to photoshop have u got any suggestions if u used illustrator

Idhrenohtar Faelon: thanks, i used manga studio in doing the line art since i'm only using a mouse, and then i colored it using photoshop cs4, mangastudio is easier to use when outlining because it has a tool used to make curved lines easily,

anime_gal: i tried you're advice but when i set the line art to linear light, i can no longer color the layers behind it, they became transparent, so only the line art was visible, did i make something wrong? and thanks by the way for your advice, i'm still new to digital editting so it was a great help,

Already with the style your doing, i can tell if you continue your going to end up with AMAZING colouring works.

You use manga studio? Ohh lovely, i used to use that untill it stuffed up on me
Dont take that program for granted I loved that thing, and still do even though it broke my heart.

Natsuki Kaori: yes, i use manga studio, hehe. . . but as of now, i only use it for tracing my artwork, since it is easy to use even with a mouse, why did that program broke your heart? i also like that program, though once i format my computer, i won't be able to use it anymore since my installer got corrupted,

Haha it broke my heart because it wouldnt work anymore ever since it broke i stopped drawing on the computer! </3

Manga studio is amazing though, if i knew it would break in the future i would of used it more often haha.

oh, and can't you repair your manga studio? do you have the installer with you?
