[13th Division] [Recruit Mission] Unforgivable

Location: The outskirts of Seireitei

Background: The Montera family is a clan of wealthy nobles that live on the outskirts of Seireitei. They have been known to get along with other noble families and are involved with the noble matters but recently, it was announced that the head of the family, Reddock Montera has mysteriously disappeared. He was last seen by the workers, walking out of the mansion in a hurry a few nights ago. Witnesses mentioned that he was agitated when he left during that night and he had told the workers that he was attending to some business matters.

Rumors have spread that Reddock had been kidnapped by an unknown gang but it is not clearly known whether the gang was hired by one of the other noble families or the culprits were right under his nose, the Montera family members. Not much is known about the Montera family except that when the previous head of the family was murdered along with his wife, chaos had ensued over who would take the leadership. According to the family's customs, the true heir was supposed to be the son of the previous head of the family but that true heir was nowhere to be found. Some say he was unfairly kicked out by his uncle Reddock but others say that the boy simply disappeared, driven by the grief of losing his parents…

The Montera family has requested the assistance of the Shinigami to help them find Reddock’s whereabouts and apprehend the culprits that are responsible for his disappearance. They insist that he should be found as soon as possible. It was decided by Gotei 13 that 13th Division would take the case.

Objectives
-Investigate more about the gang that is rumored to have kidnapped Reddock and apprehend the culprits using any means necessary.

-Observe the Montera family and ascertain whether the suspicions of the family members being involved in his abduction are true or not.

-Most importantly, bring back Reddock Montera safe and unharmed!

Sunlight stippled the trees in it's morning glory. The golden light shafts trickled down into the underbrush, stroked the weathered cobbled path and poked the little blades of grass that peeked out from between the cobble stones. A flock of birds flew over the sky in an arrow shape and disappeared among the neighboring trees. A large ripened orange dropped from one of the trees and rolled towards the pond. Frausty glanced at the tiny bubbles of water than came from beneath the pond, floating slowly to the surface.

The orange kept rolling down until it hit her left foot. She picked it up and smelled the sweet fragrance of the orange. Throwing it in the air, Frausty caught it in her hand and smiled. She took a seat on the garden bench and waited patiently.

"I hope Shien doesn't arrive late," she said while shaking her head in amusement.

Placing the orange next to her, Frausty took out a black ribbon and tied her hair in a ponytail. They were to head for the Montera Mansion in the outskirts of Seireitei. She wondered how the mansion would look like...probably grand and dazzling. She didn't know much about the noble family of Montera but she was going to learn a lot more once they had started the mission. She was looking forward to the mission. The world of nobles and their politics was something new and foreign to her, being a citizen of Rukongai for many years.

Such a relaxing day...

You're not sleeping in there, are you?

Stretching her arms above her head, Frausty heard a soft sigh coming from her zanpakutou, Kaz. She could imagine him, lying on the soft green grass in the enchanted forest of her Spirit World, closing his eyes and dozing off. She turned to look at her shoulder, waiting for Shien to arrive.

Suddenly, the sound of light clanking could be heard, a sign that an armored man was walking.
His polished armor reflected sunlight in all directions, forcing almost everyone to squint, in order to shield their eyes from the blinding reflection of the sun.

Shien slowly made his way through the cobbled path, his footsteps echoing in the distance as heavy as they were slow.
Such a great day today...The man thought as he looked around, in an attempt to find the chirping birds which had began singing as he walked past a tree.

Wearing his casual expression, Shien arrived next to Frausty, his large and heavy sword, resting on his right shoulder.
"Hey there Frausty-chan." He waved at her with his left hand, wearing a soft smile. "Ready to go?" He asked the woman, showing his eager-ness about the mission.

The sound of metal clanking greeted Frausty's ears. Looking closely, she saw Shien approaching, his armor glinting in the light. She rose to her feet and nodded in greeting once he had walked to her. Frausty picked up the ripened orange and stashed it into her pocket.

Beaming, she said, "Hello, Shien. Let's go! I trust you'll do your best in this mission, right?"

Giving the fish in the pond a final glance, she began walking out of the division grounds, following a dusty path that would lead to the outskirts of Seireitei. She greeted a few of the shinigami that were from other divisions on the way. Raising her head to look at the sky, Frausty noticed the azure sky was covered in large soft clouds that hung above Seireitei like a cocoon and the sun was hiding behind the white clouds.

Strolling across the streets of Seireitei, she gazed at the buildings around her, spotting the huge number 13 on one of the white walls of the headquarters, when she had turned to look back. Proceeding forward, a thought slipped into her mind. She remembered about the squirrel Shien used to have back then when he still lived in Rukongai in that little cottage in the forest. It seemed like such a long time ago to her.

Sighing, she asked, "Say, Shien...how is that cute squirrel you had? I haven't seen it with you."

"Of course i'll do my best. This is a mission i have to see through to the end..." Shien said with a rather determined look on his face.
Suddenly, his face lightened up. "I'm looking forward to this mission." He said with a smile to Frausty.

Following Frausty outside the division compound, Shien walked through alleys he had never walked before.
Greeting the same shinigami Frausty greeted, he replied to her question. "Oh....that..." He said, saddened.
"Unfortunately....it left one day and i never saw the squirrel again..."
Shien explained, dissapointed and saddened. He considered that squirrel a friend.

[Fraust]

Listening to Shien, Frausty was saddened to hear that the squirrel was gone. She used to feed it cashew nuts which she loved dearly as much as the little squirrel did. It used to sit by the window sill and squeak merrily while swishing its fluffy tail back and forth. It was a pity that she would never see it again.

"I'm sorry to hear that," she said softly. "I never had any pet...Not until I joined the ranks of shinigami. I had Chappy, my rabbit and now I have Pluu."

Frausty took another alley, ducking over a line of clothes that someone had left to dry in the sun. Curling a hand around the hilt of her zanpakutou, she wondered if Kaz had woken up. He was lazier than she was! Amused at the thought of that, she poked her zanpakutou spirit.

Hey! Wake up, Kaz.

Yare yare, why won't you let me sleep?

Come on, wake up you lazy lion.

Fine fine...

The number of buildings were beginning to decrease from each side of the street. Soon, they would reach the small stretch of trees that bordered the area where the nobbles lived. Dipping her hand into the pocket, Frausty began twirling the orange. Maybe she could remove the peelings and eat it. Taking it out, she held it up and showed it to Shien.

"I'm excited about the mission too. It's the first time I'm leading in a mission," she said with a smile. "Oh! Would you like an orange?"

Shien stared down at his feet. The topic kinda saddened him. "Oh well....I hope it's doing well."

Shien kept walking alongside Frausty as the number and height, of buildings seemed to decrease, a sign they were about to reach the outskirts of Seireitei. The forest could barely be seen in the horizon.

Facing the sunlight head on, Shien turned his head to Frausty as she spoke, in order to avoid the annoying sunlight.
He was happy to know that she was excited about the mission as well, and waved his hand, refusing her offer. "No thanks, Frausty-chan. I'm not a big fan of oranges."

"I hope it's okay too," Frausty replied with a sad nod.

When Shien declined the offer of the orange fruit, Frausty began peeling the orange with her nails. It wasn't a daunting task since she used to peel oranges with her hands when she was still a child. She could have used her zanpakutou but Kaz would obviously complain that he was being turned into a common knife and she preferred the small slices of the orange to cutting it in half.

I know what you're thinking and no! Do not use me to cut the orange. It's embarrassing...Reminds me of the last time you used me to poke at the cookies that you stole from a certain someone.

Nani?! When have I ever done that?

She could hear a snort. Frausty smiled. She liked to taunt him just as much as he enjoyed teasing her. Gazing through the trees, a light breeze had picked up. It blew over the trees and swept up the dried leaves that had fallen on the ground. She inhaled the fresh earthy air and threw the peelings into the forest. Pleased with her work, Frausty began splitting the orange by following the lines in the fruit.

"Mmm...it's sweet!" she exclaimed as she took a bite, savoring the juicy taste.

She spotted the tiled roof of one of the mansions from a far distance. Pointing at it, she said, "We're almost there."

Shien gave a sad nod at Frausty, then kept walking until one of the mansion's roof was clearly visible in the horizon.
"There it is...." Shien mumbled, in a both sad, and angry manner. He hoped Frausty wouldnt catch the difference in mood.

Shien gripped his sword tightly, in an attempt to contain his feelings and to not blow his cover. He was acting like he didnt know anything at all.
Glancing at Frausty from the corner of his eye as they walked, he watched as the woman ate the orange in her hand in a casual manner, and felt satisfied that she appeared to not have noticed.

Frausty took another slice of the orange and munched it eagerly, the juice from the fruit trickling down to her chin. She wiped it away with a finger. Half of the orange was already gone. She was glad the orange had found her when it hit her foot.

"So, this is where the nobles live...quaint," she said once they had reached the area.

She slowed down her pace to gaze at the beautiful mansions flanking the street. They were huge and grand, with large stretches of gardens bordering the front. She could see workers trimming the bushes and a few smartly-dressed workers attending to the rich nobles as they ate their breakfast outside in the gardens. In some mansions, water sprinklers were spraying the water on the green grass. They were almost close to the Montera Mansion.

Suddenly, a thought flitted into her mind. Shien's surname was Montera. Could it be that he was related to the noble family of Montera? Or was it just a coincidence. Glancing at him, she noticed that he was gripping his sword too tightly.

Wondering, she asked, "Are you okay, Shien-kun?"

Shien remained silent at Frausty's comment at first. Looking around, he saw several greedy faces, getting pampered by slaves and servants alike.
"Bastards....all of them.."

Shien glanced at each one of them as he walked past, outside their home.
Some of them noticed the armored man along with his angry glare, letting his man-sized the sword rest on his shoulder, and others didnt. Shien couldnt care less.

Shien sighed anxiously when Frausty asked him whether he was alright.
"Yes....yes i'm fine, thank you Frausty-chan."
